Cuisinart Coffee Makers Last

I have had the Cuisinart Coffee Makers brand DCC-1000 for roughly a week now. I was reluctant to spend so much on a coffee maker but I am pleased to report it's definitely worth it. Sure, you can get other makes of coffee makers for under $25 if economy is the most significant feature, but I have had those machines and I decided that, this time, a good mug of coffee was most critical for me. This brand brews the best coffee I have had in a home or office machine and better than most coffee I have had in restaurants .
It's an engaging unit but it also appears like a significant coffee maker. It feels and looks solid. The carafe has a good solid feel and balance. The plastic parts ( like the plastic carafe lid and handle) feel like good heavyweight plastic and are well molded. It is not the light shitty plastic that cracks and discolors simply in the cheap coffee makers.
I like the five beeps when the coffee is prepared. Now I'll leave the kitchen and go clean or whatever and I don't have to keep running back to see whether I can get a cup yet. I thought paper filters were a mess. They'd fold over infrequently and there'd be grounds in my coffee. But you can use paper in this machine if you need to. I just favor the benefit of the gold-tone filter ( top rack machine washable too).
Most Cuisinart coffee makers have an indicator light for cleaning -- it says it's "self-cleaning" but really it's just a light informing you when you want to pour in a pan of water/vinegar and run it through to decalcify the unit. Potentially one more reason my coffee wasn't as good as I wanted it to be.)
And the auto-shutoff feature is great. I haven't got to stress about forgetting to turn the machine off. The instruction booklet is glorious and very thorough. It comes with a parts reordering form too.
What don't I like about this machine? It needs maintaining in that you have to change the charcoal filters. But essentially I don't mind since I suspect they are the reason the coffee tastes so smooth, and they are really easy to modify and not expensive.
Just have to pour a little carefully.
